The Central Ohio Truck Pull Circuit was contacted today by an organization that wants to put a speed limit on the trucks. Here is what she wrote....

We have a truck pull on Labor Day Weekend at our local festival. There is an argument brewing, the person that runs the truck pull wants to put speed limits on the truck pullers, is this a normal thing or not? One of theboard members is a truck puller and he is really upset over this. I don't pull trucks, (like to watch) but I don'tknow if this is a normal rule, The puller says we will lose a lot of the entries if we put speed limits on this. Could you give me an idea if this is a normal rule, or not?

This is just a local truck pull, we have approximately 100-150 hooks each year, and I don't want to lose our entries, but want to know if this is normal.

I told her I would get your opinions on the situation to stop any argument. :dunno

Thanks,

Bridgett

never heard of that before :dunno

Edit; after thinking about it more if the trucks are pulling out the back then wouldnt you just reset the sled with more weight? pretty easy to control their speed i would think

Stupid.....as long as all the safety requirements are met for the vehicle and drivers then who cares what the speed is? Are they worried about spectator injuries or a chain breaking or something? Short track?

not only will the pullers not show up but the fan's won't either. I have seen the antique pulls with speed limits and it's like watching paint dry.

I would guess whoever is trying to get the speed limit doesn't want the pull at all.

Thank you so much for your input! This is NOT associated with the COTPC...this is a local pull up in New London, Ohio! They contacted me for my opinion and I thought I would get your thoughts before contacting them.

When I did talk to the organizer this morning he said the reason for doing the speed limits is to stop the cheating! I then asked if they teched any of the trucks and he had no idea what I was talking about! Then he got worried that he would have to hire someone to tech these trucks! Really...you don't want cheating and you don't want to pay for a tech?! Oh well!

Thanks for your input...you guys are the best!

NADM or COTPC rules are spelled out on the sites.....just print them off and have a competent person tech the trucks...pretty easy.....

This isn't a very well organized pull. I have pulled tractors there, and could really care less to pull there anyways. They are notorious for just making a class as you go, as long as there are a few people that want it. Hell they consider a tractor stock if you drive it in and not trailer it. I had a buddy that had a hot running 6030 that was a hot farm, and he would drop it at the edge of town and rode it in just to play there little games. Speed limits just don't make sense for trucks!!

I wonder then how do they set up their classes and what do they use to determine what class an entry goes into if they dont tech the trucks? Sounds like if they want cheating to stop the organizers of the pull need to get eductated on real pulling.

I'm not much into truck or tractor pulling, but I can tell you from a spectators view it would seem a little boring, as already stated, if there were a speed limit. :dunno

They tried doing it at our county fair and it went bad, it was a 11 or 12 mph speed limit which was stupid. I couldnt even get into it and i would be at 12 mph then once you lay off the throttle the sled gives you a love tap and breaks stuff.
