Well hmmm...as a person who will soon be needing a tranny rebuild I'm kind of interested in this thread. I've read about really happy customers from BOTH places, and I'm thinking that it is commendable that RDP has had the ability, time, effort, and talent to be able to create and test their own parts - However I don't think there is anything wrong with CG using the Goerend products to rebuild transmissions either. From what I've read (I got the screws put to me by a trans place a while back, so I've started reading/researching more for my next trans endeavor) Goerend has quality products and they stand behind their stuff too. That being said, I can understand why 1MeanCummins posted what he did - He's spent years developing his techniques, parts, and reputation as a standalone shop. Maybe CG was misinformed or was thinking of a different shop, but I'm sure he understands why 1MC posted what he did.
Anyway, maybe I'm thinking about it too much or possibly in the wrong way, but I do know that Dave Goerend himself said,"Anything you do to reduce costs will come back to you later" (Diesel Power, April 2008), and he was speaking specifically about rebuilds for your application, i.e. if you're going to rebuild the tranny, new vb, new tqc, and push out 500 hp, then DON'T skimp on upgrading your shafts as well. I want to stress that these next comments are NOT directed at Redline b/c I don't know about their pricing - Just b/c CG's pricing is low doesn't mean that you're getting a substandard part or service...I shelled out over 4 grand a couple years ago to have my transmission and components beefed up and that was just in parts! And some of those parts have done nothing except mess up and cause trouble - I could go on and be a Bitter Barney about it, but I've done some looking in to Goerend and that's the route I was going to head this time. Higher priced doesn't necessarily mean better quality.
Sorry for the long rambling rant...my truck has been down and I miss it...stupid ecm
